In his cryptic and dream-like paintings, prominent Dutch artist Michael Raedecker records the memories hidden within settings and objects. Suburban homes, tree huts, empty rooms, and empty chairs hover in unnerving isolation. The artist hand-sews forms into textural materiality using muted hues and thread and needle.

Raedecker has used embroidery in his paintings since the beginning of his career as a visual juxtaposition to his washed-out paint application. This study of his work, produced by famed Dutch graphic designer Irma Boom, is the most complete to date, with essays by a broad mix of critics, curators, artists, and scholars.
